Rangoli

Launch Magazine

5 years ago, a small team of culinary experts from India set about opening a restaurant in Barcelona to introduce their country’s cuisine to a Catalan crowd. Having spent considerable time studying the local culture and dining habits, the team eventually opened Bembi – Barcelona’s modern Indian culinary experience.

Fast forward half a decade and business has been booming at Bembi (located on Calle Consell de Cent, 377). In fact the restaurant has proved so popular with the Barcelona public, that the high demand for their authentic Indian cuisine recently inspired the team to open a second restaurant in the city – Rangoli.

Located on Passeig de Juan Borbó, Rangoli’s seafront location offers a more varied menu than its big brother in the city centre, but the restaurant is ultimately built on the same 3 pillars that made Bembi such an overnight success – great food, outstanding service and a unique ambience.

Responsible for upholding these core values is restaurant manager Sanjay das Gupta – a man who places huge importance on the authenticity of the restaurant. Having spent 10 years working for the prestigious Taj Hotel Group in his native India, Sanjay knows exactly what it takes to provide a 5-star Indian experience.

Rangoli has been created with great attention to detail to ensure the restaurant offers a truly authentic taste of India. The 2 main chefs have been recruited directly from India, the pots that hang from the ceiling have been specially shipped over, and even the spices they use are each ground by hand in their own kitchen.

By recreating the same winning formula that saw Bembi receive plaudits from both critics and customers alike, Rangoli is surely destined for similar success.... and it won’t need a bit of luck!

What does Rangoli mean?

Rangoli is an ancient folk art of India that involves creating decorative designs on the floors of courtyards during Hindu festivals. The main purpose of these designs is to bring good luck. The design that features on the restaurant’s logo has been specially created to reflect the nature of the business.

Recommended... hot or not!

Porktie recommends you try a Biryani dish. Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of hot and spicy food - Rangoli always alter the spice level of the dish to match your personal preference.
