No self respecting guide to summer nights in Barcelona would be complete without the obligatory trip to a Chiringuito (that´s a beach bar for all our readers outside Barcelona)
The sandy stretch of the Barcelona seafront has no shortage of these wonderful wooden huts, each serving up a toxic mix of music and Mojitos to keep the beach bouncing well into the night.
But keen to get away from the overpopulated playas in the city, Porktie cast our net a little wider in search of a different Chiringuito experience this summer. The search led us up the Costa Brava to the small fishing town of Arenys de Mar, the home of one of the finest beach bars on the Catalan coast - Lasal.
An effort to get there? Yes! Is it really worth the hassle? Without doubt!
The background
Over the past 18 summers, Lasal has grown from a quaint hut in the sand 40km from Barcelona, into a well respected venue on the European music circuit. Each summer Lasal constructs a live music agenda, and invites some of the top names in electronic and black music from across Europe to play live sets in the sand.
They even have their own record label, which this summer releases Lasal Vol 2 – the second chapter of their critically acclaimed beach sounds compilations.
Open until 3am weekdays and 3.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. (From May to September)

The transport situation
- Train: Plaça Catalunya to Arenys de Mar (around 50 minutes)
A word of warning... the last train back to Barcelona leaves at 10.42pm, so if you´re planning on staying until 3am then be prepared to ride home on the dreaded night bus (we´re only joking, it’s not that bad... honest!)
- Night Bus: N-82 (Runs throughout the night)
