The Small Town in the Big City

In 1897, the small Catalan town of Grącia was officially annexed to the city of Barcelona following the growth of the neighbouring Eixample district.

Despite losing its municipal independence all those years ago, Grącia has remarkably retained the atmosphere of a small town and to this day still feels very much separate to the cosmopolitan city life on nearby Passeig de Grącia.

Amongst Grącia“s thin pavements and picturesque plazas you“ll find an intriguing blend of old and new. Trendy boutiques run by local fashion designers sit alongside `old skool“ bars filled with domino-playing pensioners. Grącia is a fascinating community. The combination of a deep-rooted Catalan tradition and a fresh energy from the multinational younger generation make this one Barrio definitely worth exploring.
