Open your kitchen cupboard….what do you see?

Well, if it’s anything like ours at Porktie Towers there’ll be some cracked plates, a few rusty pans, an open pack of snapped spaghetti, and an out of date tin of tuna.

Sound familiar? It’s time to give your kitchen cupboards a makeover with a Catalan twist – come with Porktie as we visit La Cuina d'en Garriga to get some much needed help!

Parked up on a side street just metres from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s Passeig de Gracia, is a curious looking red bike with plants growing from it. Don’t be fooled, this does not belong to a bike shop nor a florists, but it marks the entrance to La Cuina d'en Garriga – a charming retail space that is bursting with fresh produce and style ideas to help breathe new life into your kitchen.

It’s the brainchild of owner Helena Garriga, who modestly describes the shop as “things that I would like in my kitchen”. And once you’ve passed the rickety old bike and spent 2 minutes inside, you too will want to take the entire contents of the shop home to your kitchen.

The owners have searched far and wide to find products for their store that mirror their love for “authentic, natural products that have been made with both the hand and with the heart”.

Freshly home baked bread, an enticing selection of cakes, a tempting whiff of oaked baked salmon, and a beautiful collection of plates and cutlery are just a few of the immaculately displayed products you’ll find on the shelves inside.

Helena´s face fills with pride and excitement when discussing the origin of some of their stock. How they personally collect the Foie Gras from a tiny farm in France, or how their fresh milk is brought from a dairy that has just 20 cows. Each product has been made with love and is now being sold on with even more!

Like all good kitchens, La Cuina d’en Garriga isn’t just a place to store food – it’s also a place to prepare it, eat it and socialize. Towards the back of the shop there’s a food preparation area and large dining table, where you can pass by for breakfast, lunch or a tea time snack to taste for yourself just how good the food that they sell can taste!

The Porktie Picnic - Pick up a pack of La Cuina d’en Garriga’s disposable plates and cutlery – bag yourself a fresh crusty baguette, and throw in some tasty meat and cheese. Now grab your teddy bear and checkered blanket and head for the sun for some fresh and healthy al fresco dining, Barcelona style!
